Many robotic and automated systems have a multitude of metallic, electrically conductive, mechanical assemblies that house exposed electronic components and conductive interconnects. It’s extremely important to check and eliminate ground loops in a system, not only for FCC compliance but also for general control over the system. Avoid spooky behavior by having one direct path to ground.
Here I came up with a multitude of mechanical prototypes and solutions, in-house, for a robotics company in Silicon Valley. Sometimes the migration to a polymer solution is needed for connectors that have a conductive housing. Also, a bit of destructive testing proved that the material selection was appropriate enough for the job.
