Bio:

I started learning electronics and building electronic circuits at age 7 when I discovered Radio Shack’s series of educational books written by Forest M. Mims III. I built everything from a crystal radio to a rain detector to even a light dependent synthesizer. By high school I had already made a Tech Challenge Mars Rover and a digital countdown timer with a 555 clock and TTL. This was all pre-Google and Stack Overflow. Unfortunately, because of our education system (one of the worst in the modern world), my technical skills were never really challenged enough in school and STEM fell to the side in favor of more creative pursuits, such as filmmaking.

After studying film and media in San Francisco I decided that there was still more to contribute to society and decided to go back to school for electrical engineering. Along the way I would also study computer science, physics, and material science. In a way, I sort of created my own degree program. I learned about what I wanted to learn about and what I thought was relevant to current Industry. Engineering is simply just applied industrialized physics. I also excelled at hand drafting and design.

During and post-University, I created a successful DJ business, worked on award-winning film projects, managed residential construction projects in the Bay Area, worked in STEM education, started a 501c(3), built a woodworking brand, worked with Fortune 500 companies and…

I now work with robots, digital design & media, and elite outdoor sports.

Engineering (and good design) is 75% documentation (what I call good science) and 25% execution. In HOLLYWOOD a script will go through hundreds of revisions before you get the final product and each change is documented. Movies can cost over 100 million dollars to make and the studio wants to see a return. Every single shot, word, and car explosion is documented to a “T”. So why doesn’t your tinker-toy not have any schematics or drawings? Do the work and document the process!

I unapologetically go after what I want career-wise because I can contribute to just about any relevant industry and I have a track record that proves this. I work with the best people and I maintain a high level of work ethic and quality of work. I stand by my “product”. I also care deeply about protecting our public lands. Please protect the outdoors.

Robotics is actually an old industry. We just have better computers today. I think more interesting things will happen in the digital space…
